The sole launch newcomer of SFV to appear in this series, Laura Matsuda is the older sister of SFIII's Sean and an associate of Ken. However, some of the cast and crew would work on another Street Fighter project in collaboration with Capcom and Machinima, one that would embrace the utter madness of the games a bit more. Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist was generally well-received by fans and had even teased a direct follow-up in the form of a post-credits sequence, but no such direct follow-up ever came about. The 'joys' of not being the franchise's poster children, I suppose. The most interesting stuff for the purposes of a thread like this is what was done to adapt lesser-seen game characters such as Gouken and Goutetsu as well as Sayaka. This team was not setting out to reinvent the wheel, they wanted to recontextualize the wheel. So, Ryu, Ken, and Akuma appear as they normally do. For her expanded role in Assassin's Fist, she's seen in either mid-20th century clothing or more traditional robes for special occasions. In that scene she looks to be wearing a jacket worn over either pajamas or a tracksuit. Her image from Alpha: Generations is taken from the moment Gouken suspects she may be pregnant. By all accounts, she fancied Gouki and may have carried his child. Sayaka was first featured in Alpha: Generations and was a companion of Gouki and Gouken living with Goutetsu during the film's prologue.

SayakaĪnd to end our lookback, we cover a canon immigrant. It's a clean if derivative look for the reserved teacher, though he usually sticks to more formal robes when not directly sparring. He also sports a bead bracelet, discarded before his fight with Akuma. In the present day of 1987, Gouken prefers a dark gi with bandage wrappings around his limbs. SUch a creative decision was possibly meant to serve as a contrast to one of Gouki's flashback designs that featured a black gi with white pants, and maybe to serve as an inverted homage to his SFIV design.

The younger Gouken took cues from Alpha: Generations, sporting long dark hair and a white gi, though paired with black pants. Gouken serves as the tritagonist - or deuteragonist, depending on how much you view Ryu and Ken as a package deal - of Assassin's Fist, with several episodes being dedicated to his years training in Ansatsuken and how his family life would fall apart. It just never seemed to catch on in other adaptations for whatever reason. Ryu and Ken's master had had a set design since the days of Alpha 2, Bengus having even drawn a full-body sketch to serve as a reference for one of the character endings.
